How to apply for Aadhar card?

Aadhar enrolment centre is present in every zone of the city. To apply for an Aadhar card, one has to visit the nearest enrolment centre and fill in the form, submit your biometric details along with your identity proof and address proof.

To put it easy,

1. Find the nearest Aadhar enrolment centre.

One can search for the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre online.

2. Fill in the details in the Aadhar Enrolment form.

Fill in all the requisite details in the Aadhaar Enrolment form. You can also fill the form online by visiting https://uidai.gov.in/images/aadhaar_enrolment_correction_form_version_2.1.pdf

3. Submit the form along with documents for identity and address proof.

You can submit any of the following documents as an identity proof that are accepted by UIDAI.

  • Passport.
  • PAN card.
  • Either Ration or PDS Photocard.
  • Voter Identification card.
  • Driving licence of the applicant.
  • Photo identification cards issued by the Government of India.
  • Service photo ID cards that are issued by a PSU.
  • Job card of NREGS.
  • A photo identification that is issued by a Recognised Educational Institution.
  • The licence of Arms.
  • Photo Bank ATM card.
  • Photo Credit card.
  • Photo card of the Pensioner.
  • Photo card of the Freedom Fighter.
  • Photo Passbook of Kisan.
  • Photo card of CGHS.
  • Certificate of Marriage.
  • A document containing a proof of the marriage of the applicant issued originally by the Marriage Registrar.
  • Legally approved name change certificate.
  • ECHS Photocard.
  • Residing Address card of the applicant that contains both the name and the photo that was originally issued by the Department of Posts.
  • Identity Certificate with the photo of the applicant on a proper letterhead issued by either a Gazetted Officer or a Tehsildar.
  • Handicapped medical certificate or a disability Identification card which has been issued by the State Government, the Union Territory Government or any such Administration.

Address Proof

It is one important document which the applicant must submit correctly. The Aadhaar card will be sent on the same address as mentioned in the submitted document. If the applicant presents incorrect address proof, then he may not receive his Aadhar Card.

The below-given documents are accepted by UIDAI as address proofs:

  • Passport.
  • Passbook or Bank Statement.
  • Account statement or passbook of the Post Office.
  • Ration Card.
  • Voter Identification card.
  • Driving licence of the applicant.
  • Photo identification cards issued by the Government.
  • PSU issued Service photo ID card with the address.
  • Previous 3 months’ electricity bill.
  • Water bill as long as it is not more than 3 months’ old.
  • Previous three month’s landline bill.
  • Receipt showing the Property Tax of the last 3 months.
  • Last three month’s Credit Card statement.
  • Insurance policy.
  • Photo and address verification signed by the bank on letterhead.
  • Signed letter with address and photo on the letterhead of the company issued by the registered office.
  • Photo and signed letter with address issued by a well-known educational enterprise on their letterhead.
  • Job card of NREGS.
  • Arms licence.
  • Pensioner card.
  • Freedom fighter card.
  • Kisan passbook.
  • CGHS card.
  • ECHS card.
  • Address certificate along with a photo on their letterhead that is issued either by an MP, MLA, Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar.
  • Address Certificate issued by the Village Panchayat head or any authority equivalent to them for rural areas.
  • Assessment order of the Income Tax.
  • Vehicle Registration certificate.
  • Registered agreement for sale, lease or rent of the applicant’s residential address.
  • Photo and address card by the Department of Posts.
  • Caste and Domicile certificate along with a photo that the State Government has issued.
  • Previous 3 month’s bill of gas connection.
  • Either a handicapped medical certificate or a disability Identification card that is issued by either a State Government, UT Government or any Administrations
  • Spouse’s or partner’s passport.
  • For minors, parents’ passport is required.

Date of Birth Proof

The following documents are accepted as birth proof for Aadhar card registration:

  • Certificate of birth.
  • Certificate or SSLC Book.
  • Passport of the applicant.
  • Date of birth Certificate on their letterhead issued by either the Tehsildar or the Gazetted Officer.
  • PAN Card.
  • Certificate of Date of Birth which is issued by Group A Gazetted Officer on letterhead.
  • Marksheet which has been issued by any Government Board or University.
  • Government Photo Id Card or Photo Identity Proof or PSU issued ID card which contains DoB.
  • Pension Payment Order (Central or State).
  • Central Government Health Service Scheme Photo Card or Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme Photo Identity card.

4. Submit your photograph and biometric details.

After all the documents are accepted, submit your biometric details viz. fingerprint and iris scan and your photograph at the centre.

5. Take the acknowledgement slip.

You will be given an acknowledgement slip having the 14 digit enrolment number. Using this number you can check Aadhaar Card status.

6. Keep the slip till you get your Aadhar.

Keep the acknowledgement slip safe till the time you receive your Aadhar card.

What to Keep in Mind While Visiting Aashaar Card Enrolment Centre

It is very important to get all the documents required for the Aadhaar card handy and in place before you visit the enrolment centre. This makes the processing faster and doesn’t waste your time at the centre. It is to be noted that the processing is the same for all Indian citizens irrespective of whether they are senior citizens or minors.

NOTE: Registrar General of India carries out the Aadhaar enrolment for some states and Union Territories in India. However, the enrolment process remains the same.

After the enrolment process is over and you have submitted the form, photograph, biometric details and the documents, it usually takes around 3 months time for Aadhar card to be sent at your address. The Aadhaar card is sent via India Post. But, if you want your Aadhaar card early, you can download a copy of the Aadhaar card online. This online copy is known as E-Aadhaar and to get it;

  1. Visit the official website of UIDAI.
  2. Fill the form using your enrolment number or Aadhaar number.
