RBI and Raigad officials bring Re-KYC camps to villages so people can update details and avoid account blocks
What happens when a bank account holder’s details are no longer up to date? For nearly 10 crore Jan Dhan account holders across India, this question has risen. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has started a three-month nationwide campaign for Re-KYC, focusing on accounts that have reached the ten-year mark.
Raigad district is working with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to help people keep using their bank accounts without trouble. Many Jan Dhan accounts in India are turning 10 years old, and their owners must update their details, a process called Re-KYC or their accounts may be blocked.
From July to September 2025, special camps are being held in villages and towns so people can update their details close to home. This drive began on 3 July 2025, launched by District Collector Kishan Jawale and CEO Neha Bhosale. Mobile banking vans visit gram panchayats, making it easy for rural and small-town residents to finish the process and keep getting their money and benefits on time.
The national Re-KYC drive runs from 1 July to 30 September 2025. Banks, with RBI oversight, are holding camps across villages and small towns. Services include updating KYC records, opening new Jan Dhan accounts, and enrolling citizens in central social security schemes.
The RBI has clarified that no fees are involved and documents such as Aadhaar or voter ID are accepted for updates. In Raigad, the plan is more direct.
A big event will be held on 11 August 2025 at Agri Samaj Vikas Manch, Chinchpada, Pen. Senior RBI officers will be there to answer doubts, check papers, and finish account updates right away. This style, rare in other states, mixes awareness with quick service.
Before sharing the numbers, it’s key to note the bigger link between Re-KYC and financial access. Updating KYC keeps payments from government schemes, pensions, and insurance going without breaks.
These numbers show the urgency. Nearly one in every five Jan Dhan accounts requires attention within a short window.
Besides updating accounts, the Raigad drive also helps people join schemes like PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, and Atal Pension Yojana. Officials say this gives more benefits to people who have little or no access to banks.
The RBI’s latest report says that in earlier drives, offering many services in one place increased sign-ups by up to 35%. Raigad’s team is now using this tested method.
Bringing these services into one camp setting means a villager can update a bank account, sign up for insurance, and apply for a pension plan in the same visit.
The PMJDY scheme has also helped give small loans through the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY). The Finance Ministry says over 53.85 crore loans worth ₹35.13 lakh crore have been given under PMMY since it started. These loans are not directly part of Re-KYC, but they often need active Jan Dhan accounts to send the money.
Raigad’s plan includes fixed-date camps in busy panchayats and mobile teams for faraway villages. Local radio and printed notices in Marathi are used to spread the word.
Such outreach is important in a district with both coastal fishing villages and remote hilly settlements, where travel to bank branches can take hours.
Officials say that after the 11 August event in Pen, more camps will be held in Alibag, Murud, and Matheran areas before August ends. In September, the focus will be on the remaining villages to reach people who come late. The RBI’s district team will check each camp’s progress every day.
By structuring the campaign in phases, organisers hope to prevent crowding and give each area adequate coverage time.
The RBI has warned that if KYC is not updated, accounts may face limits, like blocked withdrawals and transfers. For Jan Dhan holders who rely on government payments or insurance, this can stop important income.
Raigad’s plan, with both fixed and mobile camps, could be a model for other districts to finish Re-KYC faster. Linking it with social security schemes also shows a bigger goal, using each visit to give more people access to banking.
With the September 30, 2025 deadline close, the results will depend on steady outreach and quick service. The RBI will track results closely and may change rules later. If the response is strong, Raigad could end with most accounts active and benefits flowing.
