How to get a Driving Licence in Gujarat?

Online Process

RTO Gujarat follows a proper process to issue driving licences. You first need to get a learning licence and then apply for a permanent licence. Here is how the process works:

  1. To get a Learning Licence, you must pass a computer-based knowledge test.
    • The test covers traffic rules, road safety regulations, and road signs.
    • It contains 15 random questions, and you must answer at least 11 correctly to pass.
    • You receive 48 seconds to answer each question.
    • If you fail, you can retake the test after 24 hours.
    • If you already hold a learning licence or driving licence and want to add another vehicle category, you do not need to take the test again.

  2. After passing, the RTO Gujarat issues a Learning Licence, which remains valid for 6 months.

  3. To get a Permanent Driving Licence, you must take a practical driving test.
    • You can appear for this test after 30 days of obtaining your learning licence.
    • You must take the test on the same type of vehicle for which you are applying.
    • You need to clear the driving test within the 6-month validity of the learning licence.

RTO Gujarat ensures that every applicant learns the rules, passes the tests, and demonstrates their driving skills before issuing a permanent licence.
