Anirudh, a 42-year-old farmer from Samastipur, Bihar, owns 2.5 acres of land, mostly used for growing wheat and paddy. He depends on periodic Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) for the ₹6,000 in government-guaranteed aid annually, just like the more than 14 crore farmers who are part of the PM-KISAN program.
However, Anirudh became anxious in January 2025 when the ₹2,000 payment failed to appear in his Jan Dhan account. He was certain that something was wrong because, in FY 2023–24, almost ₹2.4 lakh crore was transferred through DBT under multiple schemes. Anirudh intended to learn how to confirm that his bank account was correctly linked to his Aadhaar via the DBT system so that he wouldn't lose any benefits in the future.
Follow these steps as per UIDAI's official portal (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in):
Example:
Aadhaar Number | Bank Name | DBT Linked Status | Last DBT Received | DBT Scheme | Amount (INR) |
1234 5678 9123 | Bank of India | Active | 15-Apr-2025 | PM-KISAN Yojana | ₹2,000 |
The purpose of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system was to guarantee the prompt, transparent, and direct transfer of welfare benefits into the bank accounts of residents. In FY 2023–2024 alone, more than ₹2.4 lakh crore was transferred via DBT initiatives, according to official government data. For the following reasons, it is crucial to monitor your DBT status frequently:
Reason | Explanation | Example |
Timely Credit of Benefits | Avoid delays in receiving scheme payments | PM-KISAN gives ₹6,000/year in 3 instalments – missing one means a ₹2,000 loss. |
Aadhaar-Bank Linking Verification | Confirms your account is ready for DBT | UIDAI reports 94+ crore Aadhaar numbers are seeded with bank accounts. |
Fixing Errors Early | Helps correct incorrect bank details or Aadhaar issues. | 2.3 crore DBT transactions failed in 2022–23 due to linkage issues. |
Preventing Missed Subsidies | Ensures benefits like LPG subsidies are not lost. | PAHAL LPG subsidy: Loss of ₹300–₹700 per refill if the account is not linked. |
Maintaining Eligibility | Keeps your benefit status active and compliant with the scheme rules. | PM-KISAN payments were paused for lakhs in 2023 due to pending KYC or incorrect bank details. |
Transparency & Inclusion | Ensures you’re not excluded from financial benefits. | ₹2.4+ lakh crore transferred via DBT in FY 2023–24—only if linkage is proper. |
Scheme | Instalment | Expected Date | DBT Status | Action Taken | Benefit Received |
PM-KISAN Yojana | ₹2,000 | 1 April 2025 | Not Linked | Linked Aadhaar to the bank | ₹2,000 on 10 April |
LPG Subsidy (PAHAL) | ₹312 | 5 March 2025 | Linked | No action needed | ₹312 on 6 March |
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) provides an official portal to check your bank account’s seeding status with Aadhaar.
Steps:
Note: This portal provides information fetched from the NPCI server. UIDAI does not store or verify this data.
The mAadhaar mobile application, developed by UIDAI, allows you to check your Aadhaar and bank account linkage status.
Steps:
Note: Ensure that your mobile number is registered with your Aadhaar to use this feature.
The UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app provides access to various government services, including checking your Aadhaar and bank account linkage status
Steps:
Note: This app provides a convenient way to access multiple government services in one place.
If you do not have internet access, you can check your Aadhaar and bank account linkage status using the USSD service.
Steps:
Note: This service is available for most mobile networks and does not require an internet connection.
Properly linking your Aadhaar to your bank account is essential to receiving government subsidies and welfare payments on time. The check becomes quick, easy, and secure because there are many authorised methods, including the USSD code, mAadhaar mobile application, UMANG application, NPCI check of status, and the UIDAI website.
These ongoing inspections allow for the prevention of lost payments, the early detection of delay issues, and the continuous flow of programs like PM-KISAN and the LPG subsidy, among others. Remain vigilant and knowledgeable.
Q. How do I know if my bank account is linked with Aadhaar for DBT?
By going to the UIDAI website (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in), entering your Aadhaar and OTP, and choosing the "Bank Seeding Status" option, you can verify this. It will display whether your Aadhaar is activated for DBT and whether it is connected to a bank account.
Q. Can I change the bank account linked to my Aadhaar for DBT?
Indeed. Bring your Aadhaar to your selected bank office and ask to get your Aadhaar linking updated. The most recently linked bank account becomes the default for receiving benefits, and only one bank account may be active for DBT at a time.
Q. What should I do if my DBT status shows "Not Linked" or "Inactive"?
If "Not Linked" or "Inactive" appears on your DBT status, go to your bank and change your Aadhaar linkage. To be sure the update has been processed, you can also check the status again via the NPCI or UIDAI portals two to three days later.
