Q1 of FY 2025-2026 has just wrapped up, and the economy is stepping into the next quarter with many key shifts in motion. From a 50-basis-point (bps) repo rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to declining interest rates on savings and fixed deposits, the financial situation is changing every second.
Quarter 2 of FY 2025-2026 has brought some other changes, this time directly affecting credit card users. Major issuers like SBI Card, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and American Express are revising their credit card rules.

What are the New Changes in HDFC Credit Cards?
HDFC Bank will revise its credit card charges starting July 1, 2025, focusing on transparency and aligning with user spending patterns. While some transactions will attract new charges, reward structures have also been capped.
Transaction Type | New Charge/Cap | Notes |
Wallet Loading / Online Gaming | 1% fee (capped at ₹4,999/month) | Applies to spends on PayTM, Mobikwik, and skill gaming |
Utility Bill Payments | A fee applies if the spend exceeds ₹50,000 (consumer cards) / ₹75,000 (business cards) | |
Insurance Payments (Reward Points) | 10,000 cap (Infinia), 5,000 (Diners Black), 2,000 (most others) | The Marriott Bonvoy card is exempt |
Rent, Fuel, Education Payments | The existing 1% fee continues but is now capped at ₹4,999 per transaction | Fuel: Fee applicable only if > ₹15,000/₹30,000. Education: Fee applies only via third-party apps |
Gaming Spends | No reward points |
The aim is to curb misuse of credit cards for non-standard spending while rewarding regular and essential usage patterns.
Kotak Mahindra Bank has made a major product-level change for its co-branded credit card portfolio. The Myntra Kotak Credit Card will be discontinued starting July 10, 2025.
Here’s what customers need to know:
Current Card | Status | New Card After Migration | Action Required |
Myntra Kotak Credit Card | Discontinued (from July 10, 2025) | Kotak League Credit Card | Review new features, terms, and reward structures |
Existing users will be migrated automatically and should ensure they’re aware of what the new card offers — and what it doesn’t.
American Express has also tweaked its rewards program. The Amex Gold Credit Card will no longer offer points for fuel spends.

As credit card companies continue to tighten and tweak their offerings in response to evolving consumer behaviour and regulatory requirements, being aware of such updates can help you maximise value and avoid unpleasant surprises.
