An e-PAN is an electronic version of a physical PAN card. It is digitally signed and password-protected. This card has the same legal validity as the physical one. It is also accepted for KYC, banking transactions, and income tax filing. This card is beneficial when you have lost or misplaced your PAN card and urgently need it. You can simply download this card and use it for that purpose. In this blog, we will explain the ways in which you can easily download your PAN.
Key takeaways
There are three ways that you can download a PAN. You can use any of these according to your convenience.
Income tax e-filing portal allows people to download their PAN by aadhar card number.
This instant e-PAN facility on the income tax e-filing portal is for those people who were freshly allotted their PAN through that specific portal.
If your PAN application or last update was through NSDL/protean you can use this site to download a PAN.
You can also download the e-PAN by using acknowledgement number. Here, the e-PAN download is free for the first 3 downloads within 30 days of allotment.
Download via UTIITSL
If your PAN card is issued by UTIITSL, you can download e-PAN from this portal.
Platforms like protean, UTIITSL offer free download of PAN, if PAN is issued within the last one month. After that an online fee of ₹8.26 (inclusive of taxes) may apply for each request.
The legal validity of both forms of PAN is the same. Here are some key differences between them.
You can use both forms of card.
People can download e-PAN from their respective service providers portal. You can download PAN from the income tax e-filing portal for free. Platforms like protean and UTIITSL allow you to download e-PAN for free in the first 30 days. Then you need to pay a small fee. No matter which method you choose, your e-PAN carries the same legal validity as the physical card.
Both e-PAN and physical PAN are valid. E-PAN carried the same legal validity as the physical card. You can use both forms of PAN in tax-related transactions and identity verification purposes.
If you don't have an acknowledgement number, you can select the PAN-based download option in NSDL/Protean to get e-PAN.
You can download your e-PAN online for free within 30 days of your PAN being issued. On protean you can download PAN up to 3 times. After 30 days you need to pay ₹8.26 (inclusive of taxes) per download on UTIITSL.
Platforms like protean/ UTIITSL allow you to download e-PAN in PDF format and use it for banking transactions and KYC.
You can find your PAN by Aadhar number. Visit the Income tax e-filing portal and choose e-PAN. You can add your aadhar card number and download e-PAN in PDF format.
E-PAN card and physical PAN card have the same legal validity. You can use both for KYC, banking transactions, and online investment.
You can not get a new PAN card if you already have one. According to Section 139A(7) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, getting more than one PAN card is illegal in India. But you can request a reprint and download e-PAN on Aadhaar.
In this situation, you should first check the back of your physical PAN card, as the issuing authority's name and contact details are printed there.
If you have lost the PAN card and want to reprint it. You can download it through the Protean Reprint Portal or UTIITSL. Add your PAN number, Aadhar number, date of birth and then submit. To dispatch the PAN card within India you need to pay Rs 50.00 and outside India you need to pay Rs 959.00. These charges apply to the physical PAN card and not to downloading an e-PAN online.
