Credit card offers accompany Amazon and Flipkart’s festive sales, though shoppers face cashback limits and product exclusions, with EMI charges potentially reducing their final savings.
Key Highlights
The payment decision extends beyond the sale. With an instant discount, the card is charged the reduced amount. Cashback is credited on the issuer’s reward schedule instead. EMI charges or charges on a balance unpaid beyond its due date eat into that saving. Even a phone bought at a discount has to be repaid.
For Amazon purchases made between October 8 and 20, 2026, the SBI campaign sets different minimum amounts by category. An eligible mobile purchase must reach ₹4,990, against ₹2,490 for other eligible categories. The card payment must meet that threshold after an exchange adjustment. Trading in an old device therefore lowers the price without guaranteeing that the bank discount will remain available.
Payments made using ICICI Bank credit cards during the October 8-18, 2026 campaign period qualify for offers on purchases made on Flipkart. Offers on credit-card EMI and cardless EMI transactions also apply. Axis Bank too is running offers on Flipkart until October 18. Shoppers therefore have payment alternatives, although the same bank offer does not apply uniformly across the catalogue.
BankBazaar CEO Adhil Shetty, in comments published on October 8, 2026, urged consumers to establish whether they could repay their credit card bill fully and on time. He also flagged processing fees, GST and rewards lost when choosing no-cost EMI over upfront payment.
Raj P. Narayanam, founder and executive chairman of Zaggle, stressed card-specific eligibility: “Before purchasing, verify that your card is eligible for the specific offer.” His warning applies directly to Cashback SBI: its regular online cashback does not make it eligible for Amazon’s SBI instant discount.
Eligible SBI cards advertise a higher instant-discount rate on Amazon than Amazon Pay ICICI’s regular cashback rate. That does not establish a winner for every purchase. The discount cap, product eligibility and remaining cashback allowance change the comparison.
The following issuer-linked terms separate sale offers from ordinary rewards.
These limits cover the relevant reward period, not just the festive purchase. Earlier eligible spending can leave less cashback available when the sale begins.
Our reading of the cashback card comparison is that the useful comparison is the rupee benefit still available. Once a cashback allowance is exhausted, its advertised rate no longer describes the return on the next purchase. Conversely, uncapped eligible cashback can exceed an instant discount constrained by a smaller transaction cap.
Cashback SBI revised its benefits from April 1, 2026. Online cashback is capped at ₹2,000 per statement cycle, with a separate ₹2,000 offline limit. The combined ₹4,000 ceiling cannot be used entirely for online shopping.
Flipkart Axis Bank’s current terms also specify a quarterly cap, rather than unlimited Flipkart cashback. The festive sale does not reset either allowance.
Amazon and Flipkart shoppers need the offer attached to their exact purchase, not merely the bank logo on a banner. Amazon’s SBI terms also provide for forfeiture of reward points on offer-eligible transactions. Adding ordinary rewards to the instant discount without checking those terms overstates the saving.
No. Amazon’s October 8–20, 2026 SBI campaign excludes Cashback SBI. Eligible purchases instead follow the card’s ordinary cashback rules.
Under Amazon’s current SBI campaign, reward points accrued on offer-eligible transactions are forfeited. Other bank campaigns have their own terms.
Yes. Eligible Amazon purchases earn 5% for Prime members and 3% for non-Prime members under the published card programme.
No. The current benefit is 5%, capped at ₹4,000 per statement quarter.
No. Processing fees, applicable GST and rewards forgone can still affect the total cost. The EMI terms determine those charges.
