Banks & NBFCs Offers
Standard Chartered Bank's minimum balance requirement depends entirely on your account type. The Prime Savings Account needs ₹2,00,000, the SuperValue Savings Account needs ₹50,000, the aXcessPlus Savings Account needs ₹25,000, while the Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account and Aasan Savings Account require zero balance.
Anyone opening or holding a Standard Chartered Bank account wants an answer on how much balance they need to maintain, and this varies by account type. This guide is for Standard Chartered Bank customers across India who want an accurate, account-wise breakdown of minimum balance requirements, straight from the bank's official pages.
Minimum balance is the amount Standard Chartered Bank asks you to maintain in your account, and this changes significantly depending on which specific account you hold.
According to Standard Chartered's Model Policy on Bank Deposits:
₹2,00,000 is the Monthly Average Balance required to be maintained on an individual Prime Savings Account.
₹50,000 is the minimum balance confirmed both on Standard Chartered's dedicated SuperValue terms page and its Family Banking page.
₹25,000 is the individual Monthly Average Balance requirement for this account variant.
The aXcessPlus Savings Account can also be linked under either the Prime or SuperValue Family Banking structure, letting you combine it with other accounts to bring down your overall required balance at the family level.
The Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account and the Aasan Savings Account both carry no minimum balance requirement at all.
Family Banking lets you link up to 4 accounts under 1 household and maintain a lower Combined Family MAB instead of each account meeting its individual requirement separately.
₹5,00,000 is the minimum monthly average balance across savings accounts, term deposits, and investments needed to avoid Priority Banking program maintenance charges.
If 1 family member meets the qualification criteria, other family members can also access Priority benefits.
The table below summarises every account type's individual and combined family requirements in one view:
Take a household with 2 SuperValue Savings Accounts and 2 aXcessPlus Savings Accounts. Held separately, this would total ₹1,50,000 in required balances: ₹50,000 plus ₹50,000 plus ₹25,000 plus ₹25,000, according to the individual MAB figures on Standard Chartered's Family Banking page.
Once linked under SuperValue Family Banking, though, the same household only needs to maintain a Combined Family MAB of ₹80,000, spread across any of the 4 accounts, however they choose.
Standard Chartered Bank's minimum balance requirement ranges widely, from zero on the Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account and Aasan Savings Account, to ₹25,000 on aXcessPlus, ₹50,000 on SuperValue, and ₹2,00,000 on Prime, with Priority Banking requiring ₹5,00,000 to avoid program fees. Family Banking offers a way to lower this burden, bringing the combined requirement down to ₹80,000 for SuperValue households or ₹2,50,000 for Prime households. Confirming your specific account's current requirement directly through Standard Chartered's official pages remains the most reliable way to avoid an unexpected charge.
