EPFO’s redesigned portal gives employees quicker access to UAN, KYC, passbooks, transfers, nominations and claims, though several services still require UMANG-based identity verification before processing.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has redesigned its public portal at epfo.gov.in, giving salaried employees a more direct route to UAN services, KYC, passbooks, e-nomination, transfers and withdrawals. Publicly available nationwide as of 24 August 2026, the website works as a gateway to EPFO’s member portal, passbook system and UMANG-based identity services. For workers, the immediate gain is simple: less hunting through an ageing website before reaching the right form or account screen.
Over the longer term, the change can reduce dependence on HR teams and field offices, especially when an employee changes jobs or needs an advance. Yet the portal does not remove every obstacle. An Aadhaar name mismatch, an unrecorded date of exit, an unverified bank account or 2 UANs can still stop a claim. First-time users may also find that clicking “Activate UAN” takes them to UMANG, where an Aadhaar-linked mobile number and face scan are required. Workers with older phones, weak data or an Aadhaar number linked to a lost SIM may still need help, creating room for paid agents and unsafe sharing of personal details.

For a worker away from the employer’s registered office, the redesigned homepage can save a visit and several phone calls. A member can recover a forgotten UAN, inspect credits, file a nomination or start a transfer by phone. Nominees also get visible routes for claims after a member’s death.
People who changed employers more than once may gain the most. Old balances and service records can remain scattered unless UAN-linked member IDs are connected correctly. The homepage groups the tools, but every request still faces eligibility and verification checks.
The table below explains the 8 services and the action an employee can take. It also shows where the portal hands the user to another EPFO or government application.
The LoansJagat guide to online PF withdrawal follows the route through “Online Services," bank verification and Aadhaar OTP. LoansJagat’s editorial view is practical: the gateway saves search time, while data errors remain the bigger risk. A new screen cannot repair a wrong birth date, duplicate UAN or missing exit date.

Many online claim failures begin before "Submit." The name, birth date and gender on EPFO records should match Aadhaar. The bank account must belong to the member, remain active and carry the correct IFSC. PAN is relevant where tax may apply. Aadhaar OTP and face services also require a linked mobile number.
Service history needs equal care. A former employee should confirm the date of exit, then transfer any earlier member ID. If 2 UANs exist, the worker should report the duplication and consolidate the records. That can prevent repeat rejections and protect pensionable service.
The safest order is UAN activation, identity and bank checks, passbook review, profile correction, exit update, and then claim filing. The employee should save the acknowledgement. For a technical failure, an EPFiGMS grievance can include the UAN, claim ID and screenshots.
The portal makes a claim easier to start, but the Employees’ Provident Funds Scheme, 2026 decides eligibility. The Ministry of Labour and Employment notified it through G.S.R. 525(E) on 29 June 2026, replacing the 1952 scheme.
Partial withdrawals generally require 12 months of membership. EPFO groups reasons under essential needs, housing and special circumstances, with 25% of contributions retained in ordinary cases. During unemployment, 75% of the PF balance can be taken immediately and the rest after 12 months. Retirement after age 55, permanent incapacity, retrenchment, voluntary retirement and migration abroad have separate provisions.
Old pages may still mention a universal 2-month wait. The newer PF framework uses 12 months of unemployment for the remaining balance. Pension follows another test. The Employees’ Pension Scheme, 2026, notified as G.S.R. 527(E) on 29 June 2026, provides 36 months from the last contribution, or superannuation if earlier, for eligible withdrawal benefit cases. Those with 10 years of eligible service should examine the pension route first.
The homepage follows earlier backend changes. On 9 April 2025, the Ministry of Labour and Employment said EPFO had moved UAN generation and activation to Aadhaar face authentication on UMANG. Government data for 2024-25 showed 1.26 crore UANs allotted, but only 44.68 lakh activated, or 35.30%.
A PIB release dated 3 April 2025 said employer approval had been removed from bank seeding after bank verification. At that point, 14.95 lakh requests were pending with employers. The same update dropped the cheque-leaf or attested passbook upload for online claims. Eligible Aadhaar-verified members also gained self-service profile correction, though some older UAN records still require employer certification.
In April 2025, EPFO revamped Form 13 so most transfers no longer required destination-office approval after source verification. September 2025 brought Passbook Lite and downloadable Annexure K. The redesigned homepage now presents those services in a more visible order.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told EPFO’s Central Board on 1 November 2025 that reforms must reach workers in simple terms and member satisfaction should guide the organisation. That test remains demanding: a link helps only when the connected service loads, accepts the record and explains rejection properly.
Central PF Commissioner Ramesh Krishnamurthi listed Aadhaar face authentication, centralised pension payments and the revamped Electronic Challan-cum-Return among EPFO’s technology work. On 3 July 2026, Additional Central PF Commissioner Ajay K. Mehra said faster claims and grievance disposal remained priorities. Members still need verified accounts and saved acknowledgements.
The new EPFO portal gives employees a better front door to 8 high-use services. It can reduce searches, office visits and dependence on employers. The benefit is practical, though not automatic.
Before filing a claim, members should verify Aadhaar, PAN, bank details, service history and nomination and then apply the rules notified on 29 June 2026. With those records ready, the portal can take each worker to the correct service with fewer wrong turns.
The homepage provides the route, but activation and allotment run through UMANG. The employee needs an Aadhaar-linked mobile, OTP access and a live face scan.
Members can generally file Forms 31, 19 and 10C without employer attestation when UAN, KYC, bank and service details pass EPFO checks. Eligibility rules still apply.
Final settlement is normally unavailable during EPF-covered employment. The old balance should be transferred to the active member ID, while permitted advances remain available.
The member should report duplicate UANs and consolidate the accounts. Separate claims can create service, tax and pension problems when records conflict.
The employee should fix the record mentioned in the rejection. If the reason is vague or the portal fails, an EPFiGMS grievance should include the UAN, claim ID and screenshots.
