Delhi's CNG Bill Keeps Rising, And There's No Relief in Sight

Key Insights

  • CNG prices in Delhi increased by ₹2 per kg on May 26, 2026, and this is the fourth hike within 11 days.
  • The previous revision came two days earlier, on May 24, when prices were raised by ₹1 per kg. Before that, rates were hiked by ₹1 on May 17 and ₹2 on May 15.

Are fuel prices in Delhi rising day by day?

This is the fourth hike within two weeks on Tuesday, indians public faced another increase in CNG rates after Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) increased prices by ₹2 per kg.

These repeated price increases are due to the tensions in West Asia and supply disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.

We all know gas and petrol are the necessary energy, and Iran carries nearly 20% of global oil and gas supplies. The financial impact is already being felt at fuel pumps.

Middle-class families are faced with additional monthly expenses of between ₹300 to ₹800, depending on daily travel and vehicle usage.

Over time, continued increases in CNG prices could alter transportation affordability, reduce household consumption, and contribute to higher retail inflation across North India.

Look at the Rising Prices

Four revisions in eleven days tell a sharp story. Here is how CNG prices in Delhi moved during this period.

Do you know that in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, prices following the previous revisions had increased to ₹88.70 per kg.

Mumbai CNG also reached ₹84 per kg after similar revisions. The growing ₹6/kg increase in just eleven days is unusually sharp by any measure.

Commuters, Auto Drivers, and Families Feel the Impact

Delhi’s Auto Rickshaw Union and Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union have approached Chief Minister Rekha Gupta seeking an increase in minimum fares to compensate for rising fuel expenses.

For drivers working ten to twelve hours a day, even a ₹6 per kg increase in CNG prices significantly reduces daily earnings. India.com

CNG continues to provide nearly 45% savings in operating costs when compared with petrol vehicles at prevailing prices.

This price advantage still makes CNG an economical option, but recent hikes are decreasing the savings gap that initially drove its popularity.

Analysts Highlight Deeper Economic Concerns Beyond Global Events

Market analysts say oil and gas companies had been absorbing increased import costs for several months before transferring the burden to consumers.

A weaker rupee has shown us an increase in the cost of energy imports because most international energy transactions are conducted in US dollars.

Ride-hailing services such as Uber and Ola are also likely to adjust their pricing structures for customers.

In Delhi-NCR, many private school transport vans operate on CNG, which means transport contractors could increase monthly charges if fuel prices remain high day by day.

The government’s decisions regarding subsidies or fare revisions will play an important role in determining how consumers manage these rising costs.

Conclusion

Economists caution that continued fuel price increases may impact retail inflation at a time when household finances are already stretched. Unless tensions in West Asia ease and global gas markets stabilise, daily commuters in Delhi may continue facing higher transportation expenses in the coming weeks.
