You cannot delete a Groww account with one click. You must first sell all holdings, cancel active SIPs, clear dues, then submit a closure request through the app. Groww confirms the request via the app after you tap Accept and Continue.
Groww account closure needs three steps. Sell your holdings, cancel SIPs, then confirm closure in the app under Customer Support. The official Groww help page confirms this is the only supported route.
Groww is a SEBI-registered stockbroking and mutual funds platform in India. Many individuals try to delete their accounts in Groww in case they have faced losses, change brokers, or reduce the number of trading accounts that they hold. The following process will help you delete your account in Groww in Delhi, Mumbai, or anywhere in India as of July 2026:
The procedure for deleting the Groww account does not include sending an email or filling a form but involves an in-app request from you to clear all your investments and then confirm it in the application.
You have to open the Groww app and then click on the profile icon. Then go to Customer Support and then click on account closure. The app itself will guide you on how to sell all your securities, cancel your SIPs, and confirm your request. When you click on Accept and Continue, Groww starts processing your request.
Anyone with active holdings, SIPs, or a negative wallet balance must clear these first. Groww will not close an account with pending positions.
This applies across account types:
Four steps, done inside the app, without paperwork or courier.
Groww checks each step before it accepts the final confirmation.
Closure usually takes a few business days once your portfolio is fully cleared. Delays happen mainly from pending settlements or unresolved SIPs.
Equity trades settle on a T+1 cycle under SEBI rules, so funds from a sale reach your account one working day after the trade. Mutual fund redemptions can take 3 to 5 business days to settle, which depends on the scheme type.
Your PAN stays on record with Groww even after closure, since demat records are retained for compliance. Aadhaar gets unlinked once closure is fully approved.
You can open a fresh Groww account using the same PAN later. Groww states this takes at least 5 to 7 days after your old account closes.
There is no fee to close a Groww Demat or trading account. Groww confirms the account carries no annual maintenance charge, so idle accounts cost nothing before closure.
What you do need to settle before Groww approves the request:
Groww suggests pausing features instead of full closure for some situations. This works if your concern is temporary rather than permanent.
*T&C Apply
Rohit Verma, a 34-year-old software engineer from Pune, wanted to shift his investments to another broker. He held ₹85,000 in stocks and ₹40,000 in mutual funds through Groww.
Rohit sold his stocks and waited one business day for the T+1 settlement to complete. He redeemed his mutual fund units, which took 4 business days to reflect in his bank account. He submitted the closure request through the app after his wallet balance showed zero. His account closed within a week.
A failed request usually points to one missed prerequisite. Groww will not proceed until every condition is met. Check these before retrying:
Deleting a Groww account is free but not instant. You must sell holdings, cancel SIPs, and clear dues before Groww accepts your request. The entire process runs through the app, confirmed by Groww’s own help page, with no separate courier or email step needed today.
Yes. Groww only supports closure through the app, not by email or a physical form.
No. Every SIP must be cancelled before Groww will process your closure request.
No. Groww confirms there is no maintenance or closure fee once dues are cleared.
Closure typically completes within a few business days after your portfolio is fully cleared.
Yes. You can reopen using the same PAN after at least 5 to 7 days.
No. Demat and KYC records are retained for regulatory compliance even after closure.
Yes. Every mutual fund unit must be redeemed before Groww processes closure.
Go to Profile, then Bank and AutoPay, then delete the linked bank account directly.
Yes. Account deletion needs KYC confirmation, the same as account opening under SEBI rules.
Square off every open F&O position first, since Groww cannot close accounts with active positions.
