India’s lifestyle card race in 2026 is about clean cashback and UPI-credit convenience, while lounge access and reward redemptions are getting tighter.
Lifestyle spends are no longer only dining and shopping. They now include Swiggy, Zomato, OTT subscriptions, quick commerce, app cabs, QR payments and airport travel. In 2026, card value is being decided by 3 things: cashback eligibility, exclusions, and whether benefits like lounge access and redemptions come with spend conditions or caps.
A few cards still give clear returns for everyday users, but card terms have changed rapidly since mid-2025.
Consumers want 1 card that pays back on daily spends, works online and offline, and does not block rewards on common categories. That is not how most issuers are playing it now. Cashback cards list exclusions for rent, wallet loads, fuel, utilities and insurance.
Premium cards are adding redemption caps and reducing the “unlimited” feel. Lounge access is moving from swipe entry to voucher or spend-linked eligibility. A practical pick in 2026 is about predictable returns on the categories people actually use, not just headline rewards.

SBI Cashback stays a simple online-first option. SBI Card’s product page highlights 5% cashback on online spends and 1% cashback on offline spends, while listing exclusions such as Utility, Insurance, Fuel, Rent, Wallet, School and Educational Services, Jewellery, Railways and more.
HDFC Millennia remains strong for brand-led lifestyle spends. HDFC’s Millennia T&Cs PDF dated 25 Apr 2025 lists the 10 online merchants eligible for 5% cashback: Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber, Zomato, and confirms statement cashback at 1 CashPoint = ₹1.

UPI-credit usage is the other big lever. Axis Bank’s press release dated 17 Dec 2025 calls Google Pay Flex a UPI-powered co-branded credit card on RuPay. LiveMint also reported the launch on 17 Dec 2025 with the same launch date details.
For Tata ecosystem buyers, Tata Neu Infinity’s official UPI rewards note dated 27 Oct 2025 says from 01 Aug 2024, customers earn 0.5% NeuCoins on eligible UPI transactions, plus an extra 1% NeuCoins using Tata Neu UPI ID, capped at 500 NeuCoins per calendar month.
The updated Tata Neu Infinity T&Cs dated 03 Jan 2026 repeats the 500 NeuCoins monthly cap for eligible UPI transactions.

Lounge access tightening became visible through 2025. Economic Times reported that from 10 Jun 2025, HDFC shifted Tata Neu Infinity and Tata Neu Plus lounge entry from direct swipe to a voucher system linked to quarterly spend milestones.
Business Standard also covered the same shift, reporting voucher-based entry tied to spending (dated 20 May 2025).
Axis also trimmed lounge benefits on select cards. Economic Times reported on 29 May 2025 that from 20 Jun 2025, Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card discontinued airport lounge access while raising Myntra cashback to 7.5% from 1%, with a ₹4,000 cap per quarter.
On fees and exclusions, LiveMint reported on 02 Jul 2025 that HDFC made credit card charge changes effective 01 Jul 2025, including a 1% charge on categories like wallet loading, utilities and fuel after crossing specified limits. Economic Times also reported new charges on rent, gaming and wallet loading, plus reward limits, dated 02 Jun 2025.
Premium cards are capping redemptions too. HDFC’s Infinia Metal page states that with effect from 01 Feb 2026, reward points can be redeemed up to 5 times per month, with 2,00,000 points per statement cycle, and a 1.5 lakh points per month cap for flights, hotels and airmiles.
Lounge systems are also changing behind the scenes. Moneycontrol reported DreamFolks’ regulatory filing that domestic lounge services were discontinued effective 16 Sep 2025. Reuters also reported the same discontinuation date.
This is why the “best card” story in 2026 is more about fit, less about flex.
Axis Bank and Google said Flex is meant to make credit as common as UPI payments, built on RuPay (press release dated 17 Dec 2025). Google Pay’s Sharath Bulusu told Hindustan Times on 17 Dec 2025 that “no single player can solve India’s credit needs”. SBI Card’s positioning is direct: “5% Cashback on online spends without any merchant restriction” on its product page.
In 2026, lifestyle value comes from pairing a clean cashback card with a UPI-credit option for QR spends. The fine print on exclusions, lounge eligibility and redemption caps decides the real return.
